On their relentless fifth album, Congregation of the Damned, Atreyu reconcile their love of classic hard-rock swagger with their contemporary metalcore assault. The former is represented in the distorted gothic-rock strut of "Black Days Begin" and melodic roaring of "Coffin Nails," while the band’s pummeling tendencies surface most clearly on the string-reinforced riff tornado “Bleeding Is a Luxury,” led by Alex Varkatzas’ gruff, barking vocals.
